This is a traditional blues dance workshop, suitable for people who have never danced blues before, but will also have something new for more experienced dancers. The classes will be taught switch (everyone both leading and following). After the classes, we'll go upstairs at Telford's for a group meal.
What is blues dancing?
Blues is a style of dance that is all about interpreting and expressing the music. Like swing dancing, it evolved from African rhythms and movements, developing in smoky juke joints and Blues house parties. Many aspects of Blues dancing such as call and response, emotional intensity, and tension and release are directly related to the music. If you love blues music you’ll love blues dancing! Here's a video made by blues dancers in Paris:
Tickets are £30 for 3 hours of classes. We'll contact you with bank details to make payment closer to the time. Payment will be required to confirm your space at the event. We won't be offering refunds, but if you are no longer able to attend, you are welcome to sell on your ticket.
If you are from out of town, there is limited hosting available, which will be prioritised for people from furthest away. Otherwise, we can recommend places to stay in Chester.
When starting the amazing Bristol blues scene in 2013, Tristan discovered a passion for helping other people enjoy this wonderful dance even more. Since then he’s been invited to teach across Europe, and built a reputation for fun and engaging lessons that still help people change their dancing for the better.
He most loves conversational dances, where ideas spark backward and forward between partners, and you leave the dance feeling like your partner showed you something genuine about themselves. That focus leads him to teach classes on connection, on being a receptive lead or having the confidence as a follow to share what you feel in the music with your partner. He is secretly trying to make everyone in to his ideal dancing partner, and isn’t even slightly sorry about it.
